The narrative cybersecurity has been amplified by 87 members of Congress over the past 30 days. Of over 100 unique narratives related to cybersecurity, colonial pipeline has been mentioned 115 times, homeland security 76 times, and critical infrastructure 68 times. As of Friday morning, three Democrats, Sen. Rob Portman (D-OH), Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), and Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA) lead individual amplifications of unique cybersecurity narratives.
An analysis of the amplified content related to cybersecurity indicates that most attention was paid to related narratives in the immediate aftermath of the Colonial Pipeline cyberattack. Congressional members have amplified no significant content related to recent committee hearings on the topic of cybersecurity. The most recent unique narrative to gain traction among multiple members of Congress is a YouTube video of a Wednesday House Ways and Means Committee hearing titled “Leveraging the Tax Code for Infrastructure Investment.” This narrative was amplified by four Representatives including Mike Thompson (D-CA), Richard Neal (D-MA), Jimmy Gomez (D-CA), and Dan Kildee D-MI).
